Mumford & Sons

I spent my Labor Day sitting on the lawn at Klipsch Music Center in Indianapolis watching one of my all time faves, Mumford and Sons. What exactly is the purpose of Labor Day? Celebrating our work by not working? This point was brought up by the British band because they didn't understand this American holiday, and I thought it was a valid one. If celebrating working by not working is the true purpose, then I'm all for it. 

Klipsch is a typical outdoor music venue with a covered seating section and then a huge lawn for general admission. Everyone brings their blankets, plops down, and starts defending their spot for the evening. 

Jordan and I got there fairly early, so we staked out our territory and waited....and waited...and waited.

Jordan was attempting to take a picture of me, but we're pretty sure the guy in the background thought she was trying to sneak one of him. He kept glancing back and giving us weird looks.

 Luckily it was a beautiful evening, which made all the waiting a little easier.

FINALLY dusk came and it was time for Mumford and Sons to come out. We were giddy.

 

I am constantly messing with my camera at concerts trying to get the best setting, but it's always so hard. I made my best attempt. If nothing else, you'll see their cool lighting techniques. 

I thought it was so cool how they strung these big lights over the crowd. They would twinkle around and then all come on at once when there was a big build up in the music. 

They played mainly songs from their newest album, but mixed in were some of the songs from the first album they couldn't get by without, like "Little Lion Man" and "The Cave". I love every single one of their songs, but my all time faves are "White Blank Page", "Awake My Soul", and "Below My Feet". Lucky for me, they played every one. As part of their encore they brought out the two opening bands and said they were going to sing a song "by a British band". It was "Come Together" by the Beatles, so cool to hear them all perform it together. We spent our walk back to the car talking about how much we love them and how we wish we were British. It was a perfect evening.

Zionsville

Here's another peek at my recent Indianapolis weekend. We explored the charming little burb of Zionsville. This, along with the IMA, is something that I don't normally take the time to visit in my Indy trips. Its brick paved Main Street lined with boutiques and restaurants will keep me coming back for sure.

Nothing makes me happy quite like a wall of colorful scarves.

I was pretty enamored with this little church, particularly the gingerbread trim and the stained glass windows.

 This book store also doubles as a travel agency. The book store was closed but the travel agent was nice enough to let us meander through the books for a few minutes. I wanted to stay a few hours.

 Tucked in the back of the store was this little room dedicated to a local artist. I love all the colorful floral prints.

Everything I'm sportin' has been in my closet for a bit, but I did my best to find look alikes.

Lesley Jane had some great vintage inspired dresses and interesting store fixtures. 

Lunchtime at Cobblestone Grill started with a caprese stack that used a really yummy aged balsamic vinegar.

I went for the duck tacos because they sounded like an interesting flavor combo: blackberry salsa, avocado, and goat cheese. They were savory and super delicious.

For dinner we went to Rick's Cafe Boatyard, an Indianapolis staple set right on Eagle Creek Reservoir. It's like a little piece of New England in Indiana.

I had the Summer Goat Cheese Salad made with prosciutto, strawberries, olive oil, and pistachio encrusted goat cheese. Yes, goat cheese again. I kinda love it. 

I spent most of my time there running around the huge deck taking pictures and trying to fight off the gloomy weather.

Recently my mom and I took a mini roadtrip to Indianapolis to visit our good friend Stacey. We love her because she's one of the only people who likes to shop as much as we do. We love her for other reasons too of course, but that's a big one. We're in Indy a lot but realized that we haven't really taken advantage of some of the great museums and such that the city has to offer, so this trip we decided to check out the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Don't worry though, we still managed to fit in plenty of shopping.

We started our day with brunch at Petite Chou in Broad Ripple. This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Indy. Everything I've ever had here has been so good and I love its chic environment.

If a restaurant has these cafe style chairs, I automatically love it.

By now you know that I won't have a post without coffee.

I ordered the fries to "share"...aka I ate well over half the bowl. They're fried in duck fat and served with dijonnaise. For all my IU peeps, they're basically a fancy version of Nick's fries. So yum.

Stacey's crepe with spinach, mushroom, and goat cheese. Our waitress said it this was her favorite thing on the menu, and she knows what she's talking about.

After sufficiently stuffing our faces, we headed to the IMA.

The museum had a really beautiful lobby. We got distracted by it for a little while before we realized we needed to actually see the rest of the museum.

I was feeling really inspired by the wall of color.

It appears as if we're having a deep discussion about this painting, but really I think we were saying "look at the pretty colors".

It's no surprise I was most looking for to the textile and fashion section. The current exhibit is Majestic African Textiles, and it didn't disappoint.

This is a look at some of the popular dress silhouettes throughout history. I was feeling pretty good about myself at this point because I had learned about (and surprisingly remembered) all of this this in my history of fashion class back in college.

The museum grounds are a work of art themselves. This is the Lilly house. I wouldn't mind calling this home.

A little off topic, but I just happened to be wearing two of my latest accessory obsessions, so I wanted to give you guys a look. The sunglasses are inspired by Prada. I found them at a boutique in Chicago, but you can get the real deal here. The gold link bracelet is from J. Crew and I've been wearing it with literally everything. You can't go wrong with a classic.

One last thing, the famous love sculpture by Robert Indiana. It's a popular spot for engagement pics and proposals...can't imagine why ;)
