Treasure Hunting

It was the first actual spring-like weekend here in NYC, and I was determined to take full advantage of it. On Saturday I met up with Maddie to do just that. Our first stop was a flea market that happened to be right by her apartment. Flea markets tend to pop up in random places a lot in the city, especially when the weather is nice. I love exploring them, mainly to look for antique jewelry. I plan to make this treasure hunting a summer weekend ritual, so stay tuned for my interesting finds. For now, here's some of my favorite things from this weekend.

It sort of amazes me that in the city they'll shut down random blocks for markets like this. We also stumbled across a food market right down the middle of 6th Ave.

We debated these fringe leather vests for a very long time. I'm thinking we're going to have to make a trip back to get some.

 

 One of the many reasons I love these types of markets in NYC, you find things like gourmet donuts.

This stand had tables on tables full of baubles.

Now that the weather is nice I can get out and adventure more. Stay tuned!

Long Weekend

No longer being in school means that you don't have the luxuries of Christmas and summer vacations. Therefore, you have to take full advantage of every long weekend the calendar gives you. President's Day weekend just so happened to coincide with my friend Shayda's birthday, and it's been a solid six months since I've seen her, Katie, and Ceci, so I hopped a plane to Atlanta for a much needed Italy reunion. NYC tried to stop me with its massive snow storm, but thanks to some sweet talkin' by Shayda to Southwest Airlines, I managed to still make my trip. She's a miracle worker.

Friday night we planned a quiet girls' night at Katie's house. Most of our reunions are short with jam packed schedules, so it was nice to have some downtime for once. Katie, ever the perfect hostess, planned a full on spread of none other but Italian food.

 The wine/bellini bar, she knows us well. Don't worry, it wasn't fully stocked yet when I took this picture ;)

 Shayda enjoyed the perks of being the birthday girl while we cooked dinner.

Priorities...

I like to think I'm a decent cook, but apparently they only trusted me with cutting the bread.

Dinner was fresh pasta with shrimp and pesto. mmmmm

For dessert Katie made chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate covered cookie dough balls that were to DIE for. Check the recipe here, you won't be sorry.

After dinner we decided to have some scotch with Katie's dad. Maybe not our best idea ever. Ceci ended up with most of our glasses.

We spent most of Saturday getting ready for Shayda's birthday bash, and a bash it was. It was so epic no one seemed to come out with pictures because they were too busy having fun.

Struggles. This is a usual occurrence when we attempt a picture together.

So happy to have these three to adventure with.

Weekend

Bee and Mere headed home right after New Years but Jordan hung around a few more days...and then some. Her original flight back to Indiana was cancelled so she was stranded here three extra days. I'm not complaining though. It gave us pleeennnty of time to eat our way through the city. In NYC weekend brunch is institution, and I'm sure not going to question it. We decided to hit up Penelope. It's a quaint little cafe on the east side with the most perfect brunch menu.

It's near the Chrysler Building, and since that's my favorite building in the city, I tend to take a picture every time I see it.

They had me at this sign.

 I went with the Nutella French Toast, because why get anything else? Jordan went with the Sam I Am, eggs scrambledwith asparagus and feta. Also super delicious.

 It's a crowded little joint. You know it's good when your wait time is 11/2 hours. We passed the time with coffee of course.

Clearly there are more important things going on than my blog...

Yes, I realize I'm trying too hard for this picture. I did genuinely love my french toast though.

After brunch we strolled up to Grand Central. I could spend hours here people-watching and architecture-admiring.

It turned 100 years old this year!

"Oh don't mind me, just waiting on my train to New Haven."

Apparently everyone in Grand Central got the dark color memo.
