Hundred Acres

This past week Mom was in town to celebrate her birthday. We fully celebrated with an Italian night and Broadway, but I still owed her a Mother's Day gift. Brunch seemed an obvious choice. That way I got to benefit too! ;) I have a long list of NYC restaurants I've been wanting to try. After some debating I landed on Hundred Acres. It's a farm to table, Southern infusion restaurant that's beautiful and nearby my apartment. (Not to mention, it's visited by a certain blonde socialite on Gossip Girl.) What's not to love?

The menu is always changing. You can count that the ingredients will always be fresh and your food will be delicious.

Subway tile and marble counters are both components of my future dream kitchen.

Bellinis to start, cin cin!

The space had lots of big windows that allowed the sun to pour through. They were beautiful, but proved to be a problem for my picture taking.

We just couldn't pass up the ricotta fritters. They're served warm and drizzled with honey and powdered sugar.

When I looked at the menu online this caught my eye, and I had been dreaming about it ever since: goat cheese bread pudding with spinach, poached eggs, and lemon butter. MMMMM

Mom went for the egg scramble with a bunch a fresh veggies and a big hunk of cornbread. Truly Southern.

In hindsight the fritters on top of the bread pudding on top of the cornbread might have been a little too decadent, but I don't regret it in the slightest.

After brunch we just happened to stumble upon a once a year street fair that was taking place just a couple blocks away from my apartment. It was a beautiful day and we needed to walk off our carbo-loaded brunch, so we decided to take a stroll.

How much is that doggie in the window??

Fashion Week

"Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future...this is known as fashion week." - Carrie Bradshaw

In the fashion business New York Fashion Week is both the best and craziest time of year. Hours upon hours of work go into a collection to be presented in a 10-20 minute show....but it's oh so totally worth it. This year I was fortunate enough to get a front row seat to the entire process through my internship at Kaufmanfranco. Yesterday was the big show, and I managed to bring you a little behind-the-scenes look.

After an incredibly late night of re-beading and alterations from the sewing team, the garments are transported to the tents at Lincoln Center bright and early so that they can be organized for the show.

This way to the runway!

A little sneak peek.

This notes the order of the show and which models are wearing which looks.

A little last minute altering can always be expected...

...as well as some shoe repairs.

The models all in a row for rehearsal, not that they need much practice. Many are doing multiple shows this week.

The dressers taking their spots.

The designers have time for a few quick pre-show interviews. This one was for style.com.

And then the E! network, which I was pretty excited about as I'm a little addicted to it.

Once the models started getting dressed the other interns and I headed to the front of the house.

AALLL the cameras being set up at the end of the runway.

The cameras were a-flashin' when Kelly Rowland came in to take her seat.

After everyone gets seated and settled the lights go out and then.....

Bam.

This gown was one of my favorite looks.

The pieces are of course gorgeous on the runway, but are even more so up close when you can see the intricate beading and seaming that goes into each piece. They are all so luxe.

The designers, Ken and Isaac, come out to take their bow.

Happy fashion week!

You've Got Mail

Jordan's final day here had a lot of build up. We had saved the best for last. She's a MASSIVE You've Got Mail fan. Not to say that I'm not a fan, but I haven't watched it multiple times and memorized lines as she has :). I had planned brunch at the adorable cafe that's in the film, Cafe Lalo, but Jordan took it a step further by finding a website dedicated to the movie and all its filming locations. So on a cold and icy morning, we headed all the way up to the Upper West Side for the grand You've Got Mail tour.

Really though, the cafe is quite charming. I'd like to sit next to these windows on a sunny afternoon with a book and endless coffee.

The cafe is very European feeling and has international brunch selections such as the Italian, Dutch, Moroccan Delight, etc.

I had the Italian, of course.

They were apparently feeling very festive, rocking New Year decor along with their poinsettias from Christmas.

After brunch we hit up some of the other filming spots like their neighborhood Starbucks, grocery store, and some other things I can't remember. After all that we got to my favorite part of the day, a nice meander through Central Park.

Not really feeling like I'm in New York City at the moment...I like it though.

I still don't know what this building is, but it's in every shot you see of Central Park and I love it. It appears on my iPhoto a ton because I take a picture of it every time I'm in the park.

I like to think you have a pretty charmed childhood if Central Park is your neighborhood sledding spot.

Quite the change from the last time I visited this spot in the fall.  Everything in the park seemed to be covered in a secret layer of ice. It took us a solid ten minutes to get down the stairs without wiping out.

There's a group of singers that are always in this little area. The acoustics are awesome and I always have to stop and listen to them.

Playing in the snow, duh.

It was a bit too cold to have lunch on the steps of the Met like Blair Waldorf, so Jordan will just have to come back in the summer to fulfill our Gossip Girl dreams.

We hit up the Met's gift shop. I could spend hours in it alone, to go through the whole museum I'd need an entire day!

Where to start?

No one can leave NYC without going to Laduree, so I had to take Jordan for her first experience. They're getting ready to open another location near my neighborhood, which means I'm in trouble.

Look at how adorable this little family is! Yes, they were all together even though they don't look like it in the picture. I know because we stalked them all the way down the path since they seemed like the perfect little fam.

One of my favorite spots of Central Park.

The best way to end the day: cupcakes and wine

Happy weekend!
